The Farm Bill was passed today. Take a look at this release from the Michigan Corn Growers Association. I'll be posting more as it comes along.

Senate Ag Committee Approves Farm Bill
Michigan Corn Growers Applaud Committee’s Efforts on Vital Legislation

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan corn farmers today applauded the work of the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee, chaired by Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow, for approving the 2012 Farm Bill by a vote of 12-5. The bill now moves to the full Senate for consideration.

Jeff Sandborn, Michigan Corn Growers Association President, said reporting the Farm Bill out of committee today is encouraging in that the full Senate could reach a vote on the bill sometime in May.

“We appreciate the work by Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow to develop a well-crafted 2012 farm bill and work in a bi-partisan effort to pass the Farm Bill out of committee today,” said Sandborn, a corn farmer from Portland. “While we understand that this is a long process, we commend the work of the entire Senate Ag Committee and industry in the work completed thus far. We look forward to continued work with Senator Stabenow and Congress in passing the farm bill in 2012.”

Supporting Dexter one doughnut at a time

The Washtenaw County Farm Bureau showed its support for Dexter during its Farm Emergency Management Seminar on Thursday at the Washtenaw County Farm Council Grounds. In an attempt to support Dexter after the devastating tornado last month, doughnuts purchased from the Dexter Bakery were available for seminar participants. Other food items were purchased from Busch's Fresh Food Market since the store is a supporter of the Dexter relief effort.
